The meeting of the G20 in London is a key moment in the international response to the financial and economic crisis triggered by the credit crunch. The decisions that emerge from it, as well as setting the direction of macroeconomic policy, could well determine the shape of financial regulation for many years to come.

For many months, analysis, discussion, policy ideas and reform proposals have been pouring in from every direction – in the public sphere, from the G20, the G30, the Financial Stability Forum, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the International Monetary Fund, the EU member states, the European Commission, the de Larosière Group and Lord Turner, to name only a few; and from numerous commentators in the private sector – making it a formidable task for even the most industrious interested observer to keep pace.

This booklet aims to prepare key players in the financial markets to respond to the G20 meeting by providing an overview of the most important issues, ideas and proposals that have emerged in each of the main areas of regulatory policy. We hope that you will find it useful, and will be glad to address specific questions or issues that you would like to raise in more detail.
