Julian who is based in London, is a corporate partner and head of our mining and metals team. His practice focuses on equity and debt capital markets.

  • on the international share offerings and listings by Aer Lingus, Dunelm Mill, Fresnillo, Gondola Holdings (the owner of the PizzaExpress, ASK and Zizzi brands), Hansen Transmissions, Mapeley, Marlborough Stirling, moneysupermarket.com, Nikanor, Nynex Cablecomms, Premier Foods, Telecity, The Future Network, Wolfson Microelectronics, Xstrata and Yell and the dual listing of lastminute.com;
  • Merrill Lynch on the financing of the RBS led consortium's offer and for ABN AMRO;
  • on rights issues by Prudential, Xstrata (twice), Lloyds Banking Group and National Express on placings and open offers by Arena Leisure, Barclays (including its subsequent issues of mandatory convertible notes, reserve capital instruments and warrants), Invensys, Kenmare Resources, Lloyds Banking Group (twice), Waterford Wedgwood and Yell on capital raisings by Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc and Fortis and on cash and cash box placings by Hikma, Liberty International, Mapeley, Mwana Africa, Nikanor, Polo Resources, SOCO and Xstrata;
  • Northern Rock on its demutualisation and listing on the London Stock Exchange and Abbey National on its acquisition of National & Provincial Building Society;
  • mmO2 on its demerger from British Telecommunications and its listings on the London and New York Stock Exchanges;
  • Invensys on its 2004 refinancing;
  • on convertible bond issues by Xstrata, Rank and Aveng, on the offer by Fortis of Conditional Capital Exchangeable Notes and on various private placements of bonds in the US; and
  • Xstrata on its US$1.7bn acquisition of a 19.9% stake in Falconbridge and its successful hostile US$17bn bid for the remainder of Falconbridge, on its US$1.7bn acquisition of a one-third stake in the Cerrejón coal mine in Colombia, on its possible offer for Lonmin, on its US$2.0bn acquisition of the Prodeco coal mine in Colombia and on its proposed merger of equals with Anglo American.
