Tim Mak

Tim leads the firm’s Asia Dispute Resolution team. He is a commercial disputes lawyer and regulatory specialist whose practice covers contentious and non-contentious matters. He has particular expertise in advising on compliance and risk management, dealing with investigations (internal and those driven by regulators or law enforcers) and defending enforcement action, often in the financial services space.

Over more than 25 years, he has acquired deep experience in dealing with regulators and law enforcers, including from his time as an in-house lawyer at a regulator early in his career. He is often called on to help with complex and sensitive matters that have potentially significant business, career and reputational implications. 

Over the years, Tim has advised on significant regulatory matters in or involving Greater China, the US, the UK, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. 
His clients include investment banks, private banks, insurers, asset managers, payments companies, digital asset service providers, listed companies, listed company directors and market professionals. Outside of those in the financial services space, Tim has advised clients in numerous other sectors of the market, including telecommunications, media, pharmaceuticals, and biotech, manufacturing, energy, property, transportation, retail, auctions, online games, accounting, travel and leisure, and food and beverage.

He speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
