Alex Schmidtke leads Freshfields' Public Affairs practice in Germany.
He works in the area of public commercial law and advises clients at the interface between law, business and politics. Within the Regulatory practice group, he follows relevant legislative proceedings for all practice groups of the firm and analyzes political initiatives. In doing so, he works closely with the EU Regulatory team in Brussels.
Before joining the firm, he worked at the German Foreign Office and the European Parliament in Brussels, among others.
Alex Schmidtke speaks German, English, Spanish, and Catalan and has a working knowledge of French.
Alex Schmidtke advises clients on regulatory risks from an early stage of new legislation. Combining cross-sector know-how with regulatory experience as well as knowledge of political developments on national and EU level, he accompanies developments with regard to risks and challenges for clients with high competence.
