Graduates

Gain experience only a big global law firm can provide.

Every year we offer some of Italy's brightest law graduates the opportunity to train with us as on praticantato and gain the skills and experience only a big global law firm can provide.

Who we are looking for

Competition is fierce. As a minimum you'll need an Italian law degree, with a final qualification 110/110, and perfect spoken and written English.

But we're also looking for analytical skills and a flair for creative thinking. You'll need to be adaptable and show determination and drive. And you'll need to be able to work well with a wide range of colleagues and clients.

Our training experience

During your 'praticantato' you'll get the very best training and support.

You'll gain experience of working for clients from different countries and jurisdictions. You'll work with well-known and respected lawyers who will help you develop your skills in different practice areas.

Responsibility comes early to a 'praticante', so you'll quickly develop real skills.

We'll also help you prepare for the Bar exam. And you'll be working in a friendly co-operative atmosphere, getting to know colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds.

We reimburse all expenses incurred during the Italian Bar course when you pass the exam. There is also paid study leave before the written and oral sessions of the exam.

Student programmes

Every year we offer a small number of students from universities in Milan and Rome the opportunity of three-months' work experience.

Every year, we open the Freshfields Prize to all candidates who have studied, or are studying, business law in the EU and are about to embark on their professional careers. The competition involves a national heat, held in Milan or Rome. It aims to reward recent graduates who demonstrate not only sound legal knowledge, but also foreign language skills, a spirit of initiative and public speaking skills. Applications must show that the candidate is able to satisfy specific conditions and must be submitted in advance (according to the fixed date of the national heat).
