Our people

We’re always looking for world-class talent.

At Freshfields in Italy you'll be among some of the top people in law, and you'll meet some interesting characters.

Our work is complex and demanding so our people need excellent legal and business skills. But technical ability isn't everything. We want people who are easy to get along with, and can fit into teams with both colleagues and clients.

Diversity is important to us: we welcome talent and skills from around the world. We know it gives us the new ideas and great teams that our work demands.

Our people

Lawyers

We're looking for world-class legal talent to join us in all our practice areas.

We expect outstanding academic qualifications but we're also looking for people with an appetite for challenging, cross-border work and the ability to think creatively.

We want good team players. We don't just offer technical excellence to our clients; we work closely with them to understand their business needs and help them achieve their objectives.

Whatever we do, we aim to make a strong positive impression – whether in our legal work or in other areas such as community activities.

To apply, you should be an Italian-qualified lawyer with one to four years' post-qualification experience. You must have practised in a first-rate Italian or global law firm and have fluent spoken and written English.

Candidates must be willing to challenge themselves in a transactional, often cross-border, environment on behalf of global and domestic clients.

We work hard but we don't forget about your wellbeing. Our excellent support and systems and opportunities outside work will help to maintain your work-life balance.

Business services

A 24/7 global business also needs exceptional support in human resources (HR), IT, administration, finance and accounting, risk management and compliance, and marketing and business development.

More than 2,000 business services professionals make our business tick; they support our lawyers and deliver great client service.

As with our legal teams, we want only the best people to take on business services roles that are so pivotal to our success. We're always interested in hearing from people with the right skills.

Roles

Our business services teams help us provide exceptional client service. They give high-quality support to our lawyers and help ensure the firm's smooth running. The work's challenging and dynamic but always interesting – no two days are the same. You'll find working in our Italian offices highly rewarding.

  • Marketing and business development (MBD)
  • Knowledge management (KM)
  • Finance and IT
  • General services

Our reception staff all speak Italian and English and provide front-of-house cover.

Secretaries assist our partners and associates by providing high-quality secretarial and administrative support. They are also bilingual.

Document professionals provide high-quality document production as well as administrative support to professional staff and translation work.

Lawyers

First-class lawyers deserve a first-class training programme. Helping you reach your full potential is one of our main priorities.

We provide comprehensive training in legal skills, including courses that equip new lawyers for practical work, global courses on cross-border and cross-practice subjects, and regular updates on legal developments. Most of our practice groups also have at least one residential conference a year, often overseas, that involves colleagues from all over the world.

We offer accredited continuing professional development (CPD) courses authorised by the local Ordine degli Avvocati or the Consiglio Nazionale Forense. All registered Italian lawyers are required to take these by the Italian Professional Rules. We also support participation in external seminars and training courses.

We run worldwide programmes that develop team, project and client management skills, and also business understanding. Learning is achieved by working with global colleagues, enabling lawyers from different parts of the firm to network and develop global working relationships.

Business services

We make sure all our employees supporting our fee-earners receive a comprehensive range of personal and professional development.

Our courses aim to address individual and firm-wide needs by encompassing all key areas of personal development and practical skills training.

Our tailored development programmes and activities will help you progress your career by building on your existing strengths and meeting your development needs.
