Antitrust in Asia

Looking ahead

Competition authorities in Asia will continue to develop and deploy their capabilities. As a result, the competition compliance risk will loom ever larger for companies with a global or regional presence.

For example, 2021 will see the introduction of an economy-wide merger control regime in Malaysia and a new competition regime in Cambodia, which is currently in the process of having its draft law finalised for legislative approval.

Meanwhile, in Vietnam, the upcoming consolidation of its two competition authorities into the National Competition Commission will likely be followed by a growth in antitrust enforcement and merger review in the country.

We hope that this publication has provided a helpful overview of the key developments and upcoming trends in antitrust across Asia.
